Every year we follow my dad as he drives down a lot of streets with no name to our favorite little pumpkin farm in Three Oaks, Michigan. October has to be my absolute favorite month in Michigan (close second being July). The trees are insanely stunning, it’s quiet, and just overall pretty fabulous. Here are some of the shots I took through my window while winding our way down what we affectionately call “the scenic route”. Don’t ask me how to get there, I have to follow my dad…
Nate has had a tractor obsession for quite a while now. Whenever we are up at the lake, he dives into the bins of his cousin Dalton’s old tractor toys (Dalton had a major toddler tractor fetish as well). We went on our yearly pilgrimage to Dinges Farm in adorbale Three Oaks, Michigan this weekend, and luckily they had the tractors out again this year. Last year, Nate was interested in them but not quite old enough to realize what was going on. Today, at the ripe old age of two, he was very into it! Thankfully we got a break in the perpetual rainstorm that was happening all weekend and we got to play at the farm for a while, and pick out a bunch of cool pumpkins and gourds to bring home with us. Here’s my little guy taking the wheel. Who says love at first sight isn’t real?

That is too adorable! 😀 Love the shot in the bottom. 🙂

I love all the perspectives Jessica, and that stormy cloud is PERFECT. I just love it, adds to the environment.
-
Quick Nate, gotta get the field furrowed before the storm comes! SOooooo cute! 🙂
My sunshine. These boys of mine are crazy, but they are the best thing that has ever happened to me. Have a great weekend!

Beautiful shots jessica! There is nothing more heart-warming than shots of sibling interaction. That last one is especially fabulous!

You’re such a fun Mom!! Great captures of that FUN brotherly LOVE!
Tonight I was going through and cleaning out my hard drive a little bit…getting rid of digital negatives that I really don’t need that just aren’t worth editing any further. Of course, I got super distracted when I came across some more of my grandfather’s 35mm slides that I recently scanned. I remember both of these shots very well. We had them up on the wall up at the lake for a long time, I’m sure they are still somewhere up there. This is my dog Boots, the best dog ever, who lived up until the ripe old age of almost 16. She was the absolute best in the world. Papa wasn’t much of a dog person, but he got such a kick out of Bootsie and often photographed her. She used to love stretching out like this on the dock to get some sun.
And this one is a classic, my youngest cousin Megan, perched by Boots…and there just so happens to be a strategically placed can of beer right by her. I know Papa spotted this and that it was a comical composition he just couldn’t resist. I can hear him giggling (well more like cackling and wheezing) about it. So glad to have found these again.

You know I love these!! Don’t you hope our grandchildren find our stuff some day?

So sweet Jess! Love these.
When you’re done with your hard drive can you come clean up mine? It is such a mess and LR is running sooo slow these days, totally overburdened.-
Thanks Julia! Maybe I should start a hard drive clean-up service, good idea. I hear you, LR is running painfully slow over here as well!!

Jess,
You are so tender. Thanks for giving me my Bootsie again. And you’re right-if Papa could have loved a dog-and just maybevhe did-it would have been Boots. Love
Gone scouting…the boys and I set out on some adventures last weekend. We went off into various forest preserves, scouting for good locations for fall shoots. Somehow, it instantly became fall (or winter?) last weekend…it was 39 degrees when we started in the morning! The trees are starting to hit their color peak though, it was so pretty outside. You never know what you’re going to find, but we weren’t exactly expecting a chapel in the woods (with super cool doors)…here’s Charlie catching some air. Nate, not so much. He’s still working on his hops.
While out looking around, Charlie kept informing me about the fact that there are “lots of creatures” in the forest. When asked what type of creatures, he let me know that the list included deer, bugs, elephants, birds, fish, and the big bad wolf*.
*note: of those I only saw one bug.
Not so sure I’m gonna follow you, dad…

That is a beautiful location! Love the fall colours and the pop of red from your own little red riding hood 😉

Great shots in front of the little chapel! My cousin was married there about 12-13 years ago, in October. It is beautiful around there!
My kind of town. My friend Eugene and I have been wanting to do a photowalk together downtown for a while. He’s been into photography for, well, forever, so it was a lot of fun to wander around downtown with him and just sort of shoot anything that happened to catch my eye. Of course, you can’t go without your standard shots of “The Bean” or “Cloudgate” really as it is named, so here we are in the middle*!
*note cute new mustard yellow camera bag, super important.
This thing is always fun to photograph because it’s never the same twice.
And here are some other people having some fun with it:
I started noticing little pops of red everywhere I went:
And textures and patterns:
And tired kiddos who somehow sleep through all of the noise and chaos:
And people just trying to get by:
And everything and anything in between. I love this town 🙂

These are fantastic, Jess! I love seeing your take on a totally different subject matter. Your inner street photographer has an equally fabulous eye.

This is so incredible because it is absolutely Jessica, but still a whole different genre. LOVE the dog walker, water tower and saxophone… and your style.
