It’s summer (yeeeessssssss!!!!) and I’m finally feeling much more inspired to pick up my camera.  Actually a lot more.  But warm weather and sunshine will do that to a person who lives in Chicago and freezes their %$@&^ off for a good portion of the year.  This month has been great, my oldest turned the big 4.0, it was my anniversary with my sweetie (7 years!), we’ve been going to the lake again on the weekends, and to the pool, it’s sunny, it’s warm, it’s sunny, it’s warm (are you sensing a theme here?)…did I mention I like love warm weather?  Why do I live in Chicago you ask?  When I should be on a beach somewhere?  Because I love Chicago too.

So my One for this month?  A completely unsolicited display of brotherly love between my two little superheroes as they drove off in their getaway car, a 2013 Walmart Hotwheels red convertible at about 2 mph.  Normally this type of interaction for the camera involves some form of bribery.  Happy Summer everyone!

Please continue around the circle and follow me to NYC to see what my friend Stacey has in store for us this month by clicking here. Stacey is a brilliant street photographer who captures her everyday life in New York (and occasionally other venues) with her hubby and crazy adorable little guy.

just for me | Chicago children’s photographer

Sometimes, well, a lot of the time, I take pictures just for me.  Just shooting what I love from the heart.  On of my birthday gifts to Charlie was this cape (and a mask), because he has told me he wants to be a superhero when he grows up.  Of course, I had to get a cape for Nate too (every superhero needs a sidekick), so more pictures of the dynamic duo will be forthcoming.  But for now, here are just a couple shots of my sweet guy taken just for me 🙂

dandy lions|film

Playing with another type of color film, I took the boys over to a forest preserve that was loaded with dandelions. When we got home they were covered in yellow!  Also shot some stuff around the backyard, Nate picking flowers weeds, and Charlie “washing my car” which was him dumping water on the rear quarter panel and not really anywhere else.  Unless you count the tree he kept spraying with the hose.  I think the Fuji film did a nice job at rendering the color of Nate’s white fish belly, pretty true-to-life.  I tried to use this film in a lot of different lighting situations: full sun, open shade, backlight, etc…still amazed at the latitude that film has.

Canon EOS3 + 85mm + Fuji Pro 400H + developed and scanned at Indie Film Lab. Converted a couple to black and white in Lightroom, the color shots are untouched 🙂

grandma + grandpa’s house|film

I am trying to catch up with blogging some film images from my first few rolls!  I posted some of the other shots I took using this first roll of black and white film, of Belle Isle in Detroit, here.  Here are some more from that roll, from in and around my in-law’s home.  I love the windows in that house, they always have such great light streaming in.

This is reminding me, I need to finish up the roll I have loaded in my camera right now!
