It was so much fun to photograph this family, they hadn’t had a family photo session in a long time. So many of us stop taking the time to get photos taken after the kids are a little bit more grown up. School pictures (of often questionable quality) are often the only ones we have between those baby/toddler years and senior photos. Don’t forget those in between years, people! They are so important too!
We got everyone together here for this shoot, even the family pooch. I found out he was a bit obsessed with sticks, so I held one out on top of my head while I was shooting to get him to look right at me. There’s always a trick you can use…
And mom had a fun idea towards the end of our shoot – to grab a shot of all four attached to their smartphones, as she so often sees them nowadays. Thanks Kelly family, it was fun!
I Heart Faces is running a photo challenge and it’s one of my favorite subjects: pets. I love shooting dogs, and try as much as I can to do shoots of shelter dogs who are in need of homes to help them find new owners. This was one of my favorite shelter pups ever – I loved this guy so much I came close to adopting him myself. Luckily he found a home!
Update – my image made the Top Ten! #4 to be exact! Thanks I Heart Faces! It’s one of my faves!

October was an unforgettable month for us here in the Remus household as we welcomed our baby girl on the 6th, and overnight became a party of 5. Thankfully, after a rocky third trimester, this delivery and recovery was my smoothest one yet. We are all a little bit exhausted and a lot in love with our new addition.
Here she is, just hours old, bathed in the perfect light. No color correcting or editing required with this kind of baby perfection!
And because I can’t just pick one – I have to include one of her and her daddy snoozing away in the hospital room. She may only be 8 pounds and 6 ounces here, but still able to wrap him around her little finger. I have pictures just like this of both of our boys as infants as well.
Please continue around our happy little circle of friends and follow me to Texas to see what my lovely and talented buddy Adele has been up to in October, from what I gather it’s about 50 degrees warmer there than it is here in Chicago…see ya next month!

She is so beautiful and I am so excited for you guys! And such gorgeous, peaceful shots.
September has been a month of so many changes, both of my boys started at new schools – kindergarten and preK. Previously they were together at their old school and now they are separated but handling it quite well thankfully. I have stopped working as the biggest change is yet to come, we will be welcoming a baby girl into our family any day now. So for this month I am posting a rarity – a selfie, nonetheless a picture of me pregnant. Those two things just don’t exist! I do wish I had more pictures of me pregnant with the boys, but…I think I was too exhausted! Next, follow me to see what my talented and lovely friend Adele has for us from Texas this month, and continue around our circle!

This is beautiful, Jess! Love to see you preggers with the boys.
xo, p
Another month of summer has drawn to a close (waaaaahhhhh!) and I’m already getting sad about summer being nearly over. It’s my favorite season, I wait all year for it through the frigid Chicago winters. Because it’s worth it. We are lucky to be able to spend a lot of time in Michigan playing and relaxing on various lakes and spending lots of quality time with our families. And our lake friends. Nothing quite like it.
So here is a shot from Paradise Lake in northern Michigan from our recent vacation. My hubby rowing the boys out during my favorite time late in the day, when the water starts to sparkle like diamonds from the lower angle of the sun as it begins to set. Sunset in Michigan is fabulously late and you get hours and hours of daylight to play in! I will miss you summer! Until next year…
Please continue around our circle and see what my talented friend Adele has been up to in Texas this month.

Soooo beautiful, my friend! I love seeing your lake shots! I really want to visit Michigan to see this place for myself. One day.
Today was the day – my oldest baby heading off to kindergarten. I was so nervous that he would be scared about riding the bus. Evidently, I completely underestimated him (thankfully!) and he couldn’t wait to get on that bus. Even though he’s been in preschool of one form or another since he was about 4 months old, this was so different, much more official and real somehow. A big milestone. He was very excited, also a bit nervous, and I was trying to hold it together the entire time we headed off to the bus…because this is what my camera saw: But this is what I see: C – I’m so proud of you buddy! You’re going to be awesome and you were so ready for this, even if your mama was not!

Congratulations Charlie!!! I’m so with you Jess. I cried on K’s first day…21 years ago. I tossed J out the door 2 years later, without a single tear. 🙂

Thanks Mama Z! I’m hoping it gets easier next time around too!
