my “office” space | la grange park children’s photographer

So I recently blogged about my photography gear. I always love getting a little peek into what other photographers use, how they work, where they work, etc. So today I’m continuing my little backstage pass with my “office” space. And that would be in quotes because I work in a corner of my bedroom! Luckily we have a fairly big bedroom, because with three kids, there really is nowhere else to go in our cute little old farmhouse.

I love my little corner though, and it’s more than enough room for uploading, editing, bookkeeping, emailing, blogging, and all of the million other backend operations one has to do with a photography business. A couple of years ago my hubby bought me a larger desk and some shelves from Pottery Barn and it’s great. Holds pretty much everything I need, minus my packaging and shipping supplies (that post will come later)!

1. My little cardboard filebox. Holds all of my receipts, contracts, etc. I keep longer term stuff in the file drawers of the desk, but I use this box for active client stuff for the current year.

2. My little cup full of pens, scissors, etc. My kids cannot leave this alone and steal stuff out of here all the time. Also nearby are some fun gifts from photographer friends, a tape dispenser shaped like a camera and a keychain that’s made out of an old film canister.

3. My favorite Jonathan Adler vase with a fake rose my littlest son got me from Disney on Ice.

4. Some pictures taken with my Fuji Instax instant camera. See #7.

5. My iMac. Complete with smudges on the screen. I waited too long to switch to Mac. I’ve had this for a little over a year and I LOVE this thing so, so much. I wish I had done it sooner. It’s just seamless, and easier, and more intuitive and powerful enough to have Lightroom, Photoshop, and several other programs running at once.

6. A perpetual calendar designed by my bff.

7. Always a random toy or two around, as well as my Fuji Instax camera. It’s like a polaroid but the pictures are about the size of a credit card. Lots of fun, and my kids love playing with it too.

Yikes I need to dust…my oldest son decided to “decorate” my coaster with a sharpie.

Here we have the other corner shelf of my desk – there’s always a roll or two of film waiting to be sent out, some packaging material, paper shredder, and a client organizer that I made and framed. I use a dry erase marker to track where I’m at in the process with each current shoot. SO helpful! On the shelves I keep photography magazines and books, various camera manuals and other random stuff.
