winter is here|pictures my grandfather took
Since it’s getting cold, Thanksgiving is over, and Christmas lights are going up all over the neighborhood, I thought it was perfect timing to blog these shots. The first is of my darling Papa himself (who was usually behind the camera) on one of our old snowmobiles up at the lake. There’s also an ice fishing hut on the lake in the background. You’ll find those scattered all over the lake every winter.
Note the leopard skin seats on the Panther snowmobile next to him, along with the beer can on the seat 😉 I’m pretty sure both of these snowmobiles were purchased from various farmers, right from their front yards. You can buy just about anything from front yards in Southwestern Michigan!
This next one is a classic. A photograph I remember seeing as a child. My mom (left) and her cousin Diane, at my great grandfather’s place ice skating on the pond. Also in the picture is the infamous “Mr. Kelly” the collie. Mr. Kelly was rescued by my great grandpa (Great Gramps as he is more affectionately known to all of us), and there are so many fun stories (and pictures) of him. I always wished I could have met that dog, he sounded like one of a kind! He was always with his people, right in the middle of the action.
Kim - Oh Jessica, I love this!! I’m so thankful that your grandfather preserved so many great memories, and you are in turn preserving them for the next generation!
Mama Z - Yea for Mr. Kelly! 🙂
Your grandfather was quite the photographer Jessica. So glad you are following in his footsteps, as well as sharing his treasures. I so enjoy seeing your nuggets of the past.
Ali - I am dying over the can of Old Milwaukee. Priceless!
