It’s hard to believe summer is drawing to a close. Once the 4th of July rolls around, I always get a little depressed because at that point, summer is halfway over. Then everything seems to move at warp speed.

It’s probably abundantly clear for those of you who follow me here that we spend a great deal of time in Michigan. “Greatest state in the union” according to my husband 🙂 – well, he’s from there, so…but I have to agree! Having grown up spending summers on a lake in southwestern Michigan, I got to experience a special kind of freedom and fun that I now know is very special. It might just be the one place left for me that time stands still a little bit. A lot of things are just as they were when I was a kid.

Nowhere is frozen in time more than Mackinac Island. No motor vehicles allowed, if you want to get around the island, it’s by horse or bike. I love that so much about it. If you have never been, I highly suggest you put it on your bucket list. There’s nowhere quite like it. Every August, we stay in a cabin up in northern Michigan near Mackinaw City on the mainland (yes there is a spelling difference but they are pronounced the same way). And we always take the ferry over to the island. Great times. Can you believe my kids went at least 4 days without asking for the iPad? Swimming, kayaking, fishing, catching frogs. All the stuff I did as a kid. And they are incredibly wiped out from it all – here they are on morning #2.
